Merchant cash advance debt in California

What California publishes about UCC filings and commercial financing, and how to check your own record. Informational only, not legal advice.

Your UCC record in California

Funders file a UCC-1 financing statement with the California Secretary of State bizfile Online UCC Search to put other creditors on notice. Search it by your exact legal business name. Lien position: a UCC filing names a secured party, not who gets paid first.

Levraq reads this registry: 255 filings naming a known MCA funder are on record, last read 2026-09-23. This is one state's registry, not national coverage. A matching filing shows on your Debt Pressure Report; no match is not proof that nothing was filed.

Commercial financing disclosure in California

California Financial Code §§22800–22807 (SB 1235, 2018) with DFPI regulations at 10 CCR §900 et seq., effective 2019-01-01 as a statute, with the disclosure duty in force from 2022-12-09 when the DFPI rules took effect: A provider making a specific commercial financing offer, including purchases of future receipts (how the statute classifies MCAs), must give and get the recipient's signature on a disclosure of total funds provided, total dollar cost, term or estimated term, payment method, frequency and amount, prepayment policy and the cost as an annualized rate. Threshold stated in the statute: offers of $500,000 or less (§22800(n)). Source, checked 2026-11-04.

Confession of judgment in California

California Code of Civil Procedure §1132 (SB 688, 2022): a judgment by confession is unenforceable and may not be entered in any California superior court for confessions obtained or entered on or after 2023-01-01. Source, checked 2026-11-04.

Work the numbers

Two calculators that need nothing from any registry: the annualized cost of an advance, and the share of revenue going to remittances. The Debt Check combines both with what you report.

The cash you actually received.

On the contract, e.g. 1.35 means you repay $1.35 per $1.
